We collect and send the funds immediately to the outfitter, so they are quickly out of our control. Note too that the outfitters have to actually pay out thousands of dollars up front for leases, lodging, food, guides, booking services, and for private landowner tags all done well in advance of your hunt; so when you cancel, they stand to lose thousands of dollars in income. In recent years this has become a serious problem for all outfitters, so a no refund policy has been almost uniformly adopted. This is just another reason why we cannot, as a booking agent guarantee any refund. Sometimes we may be able to help you postpone, but that is not always an option especially if the trip is to happen shortly. We might be able to resell your trip, but then you must cover the 15% re-sale charge. Also if time is short, you may be forced to discount the trip in order to quickly promote a sale. - [Yukon Moose, Sheep, Caribou and Bear #121](https://www.hunt-nation.com/hunt/yukon-moose-sheep-caribou-and-bear-121/): Their sheep area is not huge, but has an excellent population of sheep, and they tend to be fairly concentrated in well-known spots. The sheep country is vast with elevations from 4,500 to 7,000 feet. You will use horses but also be prepared to do some hiking to get into prime sheep country. The first 2 weeks of hunts generally produce more sheep sightings, as the animals move up high (where they are more visible) to escape the bugs. These early hunts also produce the highest success. The last 2 weeks of hunts usually result in fewer sheep seen, as the cooler weather pushes out the bugs and the sheep move down into the timber at lower elevations. As such, success is usually not as high, but these later hunts often produce the biggest rams of the season. This outfitter runs approx. 5 sheep camps per season. They will usually host 6-8 hunters per year. In 2023 8 sheep hunters took 6 rams, including the largest taken in the Yukon for the year.

- [South Dakota Bison Hunt #101](https://www.hunt-nation.com/hunt/south-dakota-bison-hunt-101/): Our research led us to this outfitter in rural northeast South Dakota. He provides one of the more challenging bison hunts in the country, we believe. These bison run on 7,000 acres of rolling hills, canyons and prairie, much like their ancestors did, and the fencing is just 4- and 5-strand barbed wire (rather than high game-proof fenced), so trophy bulls should be eligible for inclusion in the North America 29 Super Slam (Grand Slam Club/Ovis), as well as SCI. They are about 500 in number and you will need to stalk them. You pick the size of animal you wish to hunt, and you can use archery, blackpowder, rifle, or pistol (rental rifles are available for approx. $75/hunter, incl. shells). Whatever your weapon of choice, you will earn your trophy – you are not shooting fish in a barrel here. Of course, bison are a plains animal, normally quite visible, so please bear that in mind. Multiple stalks are often needed.
- [WYOMING COW ELK DEPREDATION HUNTS—WYOMING #143](https://www.hunt-nation.com/hunt/wyoming-cow-elk-depredation-hunts-wyoming-143/): The perfect meat hunt! Physically very easy, perfect for family and older hunters and anyone wanting elk meat.  And youth licenses are a bargain! These Wyoming ranchers annually are sustaining massive crop damage from marauding herds of elk of 30 to 150 animals and more. Due to damage claims taking so much money out of WY Game and Fish coffers, a special arrangement has been negotiated to allow these select bunch of ranchers a Special Depredation Hunt. There is no time limit to apply; no points are required to draw; and there are hunt dates starting in August!! All private lands. But there are a limited number of tags available and it is first come first served. You will need to contact us at hunt Nation for a full explanation of the special procedures you will need to follow to obtain the tags. It’s not very difficult once you understand the procedures and rules. In 2025, a Wyoming cow elk tag for non-residents costs $303. A youth license for a cow elk tag costs only $115!
- [KODIAK BROWN BEAR- BAITED BLACK AND BROWN BEAR/ MOOSE—ALASKA #98](https://www.hunt-nation.com/hunt/kodiak-brown-bear-baited-black-and-brown-bear-moose-alaska-98/): Like all his hunts included in the price of this hunt are license, tag.- ($1,160) Roundtrip transportation to camp along with meals and lodging. No tent camps here. You will stay warm dry and well fed with either cabin or boat accommodations. For this hunt you must apply through the Alaska draw which takes place November 15- December 15th every year. Draw odds historically have been around 30% for both spring and fall hunts.

In addition to elk, Oregon also has good populations of mule deer, blacktail deer, whitetail deer and the Columbian whitetail, not to mention black bear, antelope, mountain goat, bighorn sheep and mountain lion. In short, Oregon is a hunter’s paradise that is overlooked by many sportsmen.

This ranch is the 2nd largest in the state of Ohio, with 8,500 contiguous acres. It is carefully managed to produce trophy whitetail and turkey. With 60 stand locations spread over 12+ miles, along with 40 trail cameras, they are up to date on what the deer are doing. With 5-6 hunters per week and 35 for the season, you can expect a quality hunting experience. The target is deer 140” and bigger, with a minimum of 130”. Hunting is done from treestands, ground and elevated blinds. There are no deer drives permitted, as drives are the largest source of wounded deer and miss-judgement of antler size.

This area is known for its elk hunting opportunities, particularly for trophy bulls. You will hunt in west-central New Mexico and near bordering Arizona. The unit contains a mix of private, state, BLM and tribal land. Absent landowner tags, drawing an Elk tag for this area can be very difficult to obtain for non-residents. However, this outfitter has a private ranch totaling 11,200 acres, and the State of New Mexico has authorized him to sell 10 rifle and 3 archery bull elk tags along with 4 cow elk tags per year. The result is that once you have booked, you are guaranteed a license without having to worry about the draw. Otherwise, should you try to draw the unit - you most likely will be unsuccessful in actually pulling a tag.

Deer and antelope can be combined for very good combo hunts. The outfitter hunts approximately 175,000 acres. As you can see from the pictures, his clients take some impressive mule deer and whitetails. The outfitter has a number of ranches to hunt. Whitetails commonly are in the 130- to 155-inch class; mulies are typically in the 155- to 175-inch class. The outfitter has trophy ranches that produce even bigger bucks in the 165- to 190-inch range. The antelope are representative 13- to -15-inch goats, but chances for an even better buck are possible. Elk hunting means solid 5×5 and 6×6 bulls. Hunters can expect to see at least two dozen bucks in the course of a hunt and sometimes you can see that many in a single day! So you need to look hard at this outfitter if you want a high-success deer hunt, or if you want a good elk hunt with bow. Success on deer and antelope borders on 90% to 100% with rifle, and slightly less with bow.

The application must be completed prior to April 1st and success on the draw has historically been 100% as well.

Much of Missouri has gently rolling hills, plenty of water and agriculture, private ground that serves as deer sanctuaries and a healthy and expanding deer herd. Some massive bucks are part of Missouri folk lore including the 333-inch monster that was found dead in St. Louis County in 1981. Another non-typical buck was shot by Kevin Thomas that net scored a whopping 282 2/8 inches. That gives you an idea of the kind of trophy potential Missouri whitetails possess. Veteran whitetail hunters know those are rare deer, but it is invigorating to know the area can produce monster bucks with record-book potential. It definitely keeps you from dosing on stand!

Sure, he kills monster whitetails and mule deer, but he won’t “sell” you one of those hunts. Deer like that don’t live on every farm, so he leases the highest quality land available and hunts the deer that do live there. He feels that deer over 160 inches are “5% bucks” – 5% of his successful clients are going to slay monster deer like that. The other 95% are going to shoot respectable deer. What happens in most instances is hunters come in wanting a 150” deer, but when a 135” goes broadside at 15 yards, the hunter draws and shoots. So rather than promoting the monsters and have you coming in hoping to shoot a 160”, 170” or even 200” non-typical, he promotes the deer in the 130”-150” range. That way, if you come in expecting a shot at one of these and have success, you will be happy and will have got what you paid for. If you shoot a monster, then it’s just that much sweeter.

We like that some of it borders the Quivira National Wildlife Refuge as a source for a continuing supply of big bucks! This refuge is home to some of the largest bucks in the state. Top it off with a BRAND NEW hunting lodge and this trip is one not to miss! Hunting is primarily from stands which are pre-scouted and located. And how can you ignore a regular client who has taken 7 bucks in 8 years, averaging 160! Apply for license in April.
- [Turkeys, Whitetails, Pheasant, Waterfowl – Kansas #5](https://www.hunt-nation.com/hunt/turkeys-whitetails-pheasant-waterfowl-kansas-5/): This outfitter specializes in field shooting for geese and takes a variety of Canadas, white-fronted geese or specks, and snow and blue geese. LIMITS ARE COMMON. Often you may shoot a hodgepodge of ducks right along with the geese, but the outfitter does offer specialized duck hunts over water, too (duck season end December 31). The goose hunting is from lay-out blinds in prime pre-scouted fields over big spreads of lifelike decoys. Arrive the night before your hunt, and depart after the last hunt. The Kansas goose season typically runs from November to February 12 or so. He will supply a nice lunch. You can make your own breakfast in the full kitchen they provide in the lodge, and then go to town to Applebee’s or one of the other restaurants for dinner. Bring along your own food for early mornings, and supper if you intend to cook. The kitchen is there for your use. Just be sure and clean up after yourself. Town is 10 miles away with several good places to eat also.

It’s considered among the two or three top states in the country for record-book whitetails. Iowa is known for growing giant, heavy-bodied 300-pound bucks sporting impressive headgear. The rolling farmlands interspersed with dense thickets, hedgerows, swales, cattails swamps and escape cover provides plenty of places for wily bucks to hide and grow old. This outfitter has been guiding for over 15 years and has been an outfitter for the past six years. He has 6,500 acres to hunt in southwest Iowa’s Zone 4 and prides himself on keeping hunter numbers low (5-6 hunters per week most weeks of the season; 20-25 per year in total) and hunting pressure to a minimum to increase the chances of harvesting mature bucks. His area is pretty unpopulated and he feels that the deer population is reaching some of its highest population density. Some years his hunter success is pushing 85 to 90%! That is incredible when you consider we are looking at 140” and up deer!  They have a policy of min. 3 years old for bucks to be harvested.

In addition, his main lodge has some awesome trout fishing with several miles of water available, plus some ponds. Bring fishing poles!

SCI lists substantially more varieties then does B&C, but if you want a Columbian blacktail, then per SCI, your choice is much more limited with most being taken in California, and some from Washington, Oregon and BC. California seems to be best for the largest deer with 15 of the top 25 SCI book deer coming from California. Most of these deer will weigh between 125 to 180 pounds. Looking much like a mule deer antler wise and body wise, their horns are smaller than a muley, with a good trophy deer scoring in the 110 to 140 class, but a few will range 150 to even 180. They range through the wet forest habitat in BC, WA and Oregon, and into more open areas in California.

Guiding is a minimum of 2x1. For example, a group of three will share two guides per Alaskan state law. We offer this hunt in late October through mid-November when rutting activity is heating up. Although this hunt is not as physically demanding as the mountain goat, hunters should be prepared to climb hills and cover several miles each day by foot.

And all these areas produce consistently well, with 7 footers relatively common.

And with no need to return to base camp each evening, hunters and their guides can spike out where ever they chose by taking their mobile camps with them. If you want placed in a great area with experienced, competent guides, this may be your hunt.

They hunt both grizzly and caribou in the area. You can book caribou only, or do the combo of griz and ’bou. The outfitter is a third generation bush pilot with many years of flying safely under his belt. And he likes to encourage you to bring family to the arctic. He has hunted many father/son; father/daughter and husband and wife groups. The Arctic is a once in a lifetime experience the first time! And every time thereafter!

- [ARGENTINA](https://www.hunt-nation.com/gear-list/argentina/): What follows is a general guideline, and each hunter should adapt it to fit his own needs. No list will ever be all encompassing, so please think about your needs.
- [BEAR](https://www.hunt-nation.com/gear-list/bear/): BEAR HUNTING GEAR LIST Much of the hunting for bear, moose, and caribou takes hunters into low, rolling, mountainous regions with heavy brush and timber at the lower elevations. Rainy or snowy weather is common. Valley areas often have lakes, rivers, stream or swamps. Hunters need more specialized clothing. Snow and cold are possible any month of the year. A typical day on a hunt is to walk or ride out of a spike camp into a higher piece of ground and then sit and watch for game, sometimes for hours, so layered clothing is important. Dress lighter when moving and carry a daypack with heavier clothing to keep you warm and comfortable while you are sitting and glassing for game. But be prepared for a sudden brisk hike when your quarry is sighted. Go light, but be prepared for any occasion. Our gear suggestions include the following: Daypack - Your daypack should have approximately 2,000 square inches of capacity. Roughly enough to stuff your coat, lunch, and survival kit into. A few extra pockets on the outside are handy for flashlights, extra batteries, maps, etc. The best packs are the top-load models, without zippers on the sides. Zippers often break, making the pack useless. Nylon is the toughest and lightest, although some fleece models work well also. Fleece tends to pick up burrs and brush. Pick what is right for your area. Boots - Sore feet have ruined more mountainous hunts than any other single problem. If you are going to be based out of a spike camp where you can take two pairs of boots, take them. Wear a different pair of boots each day, allowing the boots to dry out for a day. While Gore-Tex-style boots work well for a few days, perspiration from your feet will eventually dampen the interior of the boot enough that it will begin to feel clammy and your feet will get cold. If your boot has a changeable liner, take extra liners and rotate them every day, drying the used pair daily. If you expect real cold, the Sorel-type boot with a heavy felt lining is your salvation. This flexibility makes it easier to control the climate in your boot, and happy feet are tough feet. Moleskin, available at all drug stores, is the answer in case of chafing or blistering. Canteen - In drier weather, it is important to have about two quarts of water with you. In cooler weather, one quart will do. Wide mouths are best. Hip Boots - Hip boots are a necessary evil. Because of the wet, marshy areas and high brush, hip boots are the best choice for the hunter. Since considerable walking may be necessary, specialized ankle-fit boots are best. These boots are designed a little snugger around the ankle and it makes it a lot easier to walk. Buy the boots about a half size larger and put in a polypropylene inner sole to give you a little more protection from rock bruising and additional warmth. Rain Suits - Hunters should take rubberized rain suits on all hunts. Generally, if it rains, it really rains-often pushed along by strong winds. Since the areas can be brushy, hunters are often pushing their way through brushy regions, and there is nothing worse than wet brush! A regular rubberized suit is best for this type of hunt. A full-length jacket with a zipper or button front to provide ventilation is essential. Buy at least one size larger to accommodate layered clothing. Take rain pants, too, for maximum protection. Gloves - Due to the inclement conditions, Gore-Tex mitts or gloves are probably the best bet for the hunter. Take three or four pairs. Also take a pair of leather mittens with fleece liners and a pair of insulated finger gloves. Hats - A water resistant and insulated hat with warm ear flaps and visor to keep water off of your glasses. Wind is often a problem. You may be sitting for hours glassing for game. Use the hood on your rain jacket to keep water from running down your neck. Sitting Pad - Since you will be sitting for hours, often on damp ground, it is pretty handy to have some type of pad to sit on. A small, waterproof insulating pad is a good bet. It will keep a Jacket-Midweight wool, with new miracle fleece-type fabric is generally best. Vest - A synthetic fill vest with a collar is a small item that can save your day. Underwear - The best underwear is a synthetic fiber. The lighter weight underwear is generally adequate on these hunts. We suggest the zip-down turtleneck. You can control the warmth of the garment and provide better venting. It is a great idea to take two pairs of long underwear. Socks - Three pairs of heavy socks and three pairs of lightweight socks, preferably designed for anti-blistering. The socks can be washed and dried daily. Sleeping Bags - Because of the varied, often unexpected, conditions a hunter can experience while hunting mountainous terrain, it is often better to take two lightweight sleeping bags. I prefer synthetic bags. Place one bag inside the other. The inside bag should be the mummy type, a more compact model. The outside bag can be a rectangular one that offers a little more room. Since you have two bags, you can leave the outside bag open if you encounter warmer weather. Should it get cold, zip both bags up and you can brave subzero temperatures. Since sleeping bags are bulky, hunters should obtain a compression stuff sack to help bind the bags into a smaller parcel for easier transportation. Sleeping Pad - If space permits, a full-length pad, two inches thick, goes well under old bones. Outfitters often supply pads. Pants - A lightweight wool or fleece model is ideal. Try to find pants with extra pockets in the legs (cargo pockets). You never have enough pockets for handkerchiefs, flashlights, etc. Take two pairs. Clothes that fit a bit loose are a good idea. Shirts -Three lightweight shirts with long sleeves. Wool is generally best. HAPPY HUNTING!

As with anything, it is important to buy the highest quality equipment that you can afford. This eliminates having to purchase that item again or more often than you would like. I also strongly recommend buying items of minimal weight. This cuts back on fatigue while in the field, allowing you to go that extra mile.

- [ALEX BEANE](https://www.hunt-nation.com/team/alex-beane/): Alex grew up in the Northeast with a fishing pole in his hand.  At the age of ten he was introduced to the Fly-Fishing world and never looked back. Moving to the Rocky Mountains at the age of 18 and becoming part of the Fly-Fishing workforce community as a guide and shop manager was just the beginning.  Over the next 30 years Alex moved around the country guiding and managing Fly Shops while continuing to grow his knowledge of the world’s fisheries.
- [JOHN POMAZI](https://www.hunt-nation.com/team/john-pomazi/): John and his wife and children are life-long Oregon residents. John has 6 years distinguished military service and graduated from Western Oregon State College with a B.S in Law Enforcement and worked in that field for 26 years. John grew up hunting mule deer with his dad.  After getting out of the military his best friend got him into archery hunting and began pursuing elk along with mule deer and black bear.  Started hunting Idaho for whitetail’s and elk in the mid 90’s. Became interested in hunting other states for more opportunities and has hunted Alaska for black bear, grizzly bear, brown bear, moose, mountain goat and Sitka blacktails.  John's hunted many of the western states along with most Canadian provinces.  His true love is Africa which started as a once in a lifetime trip in 2008 but turned into 8 safaris with the most recent being last year. John thoroughly enjoys the research and logistics of planning a hunt almost as much as the hunt itself which led him to becoming a member of the Hunt Nation team. He is a lifetime member of the Oregon Hunter Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and SCI.

- [DON SANGSTER](https://www.hunt-nation.com/team/don-sangster/): Don makes his home in Mississauga, Ontario, and is an avid multi-species hunter and angler; he describes one as his passion and the other as his obsession — which is which varies with the seasons. He’s been a professional outdoor writer and photographer since 1998, and is a frequent contributor to numerous North American print and web publications. He also owns a business that acts as distributor/wholesaler/manufacturers’ representative for a select group of premium hunting and fishing products and brands.

She raised English Setters in Connecticut and enjoyed taking the dogs out pheasant hunting. One morning Butch took her Whitetail hunting and she shot an 8 pointer that dressed out at 254 pounds.

He has worked, hunted and fished his whole life in the West, including Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska. For the last 8 years, he has been a professional licensed guide in Wyoming, guiding for Muledeer, Whitetails, Elk, Antelope and Turkey.

He holds a Juris Doctorate and was a member of the Board of Editors for the Connecticut Law Review and a Distinguished Military Graduate. He was the senior partner in his law firm before retiring.

Born and raised in the Northeast, Ed became an avid whitetail hunter and spent countless hours with his parents and on his own pheasant hunting and fishing for both fresh and saltwater species from Long Island Sound to Lake Ontario. Ed has hunted and fished South Africa, Argentina, Costa Rica and Alberta and many states in the US.
