WESTERN COASTAL BROWN BEAR AND MOOSE – ALASKA #347

WESTERN COASTAL BROWN BEAR AND MOOSE – ALASKA #347

This young outfitter came to us as a recommendation from one of are long time Alaskan outfitters that was retiring and hanging up his guiding outfit after over 35 years in the business. When a long time well respected professional guide calls us and says you should bring this outfitter on board and work with him, we pay attention! It was a bonus that our own agent, Eddie Deuser, had spent a week in the remote western edge of the Alaskan bush hunting previously with him as well. Eddie was flown around to the different lakes and rivers and was transported by this very experienced bush pilot. This gave us some additional firsthand experience with this outfitter too.

The owner and head guide of this outfit has lived, hunted, and worked as a bush pilot in western Alaska since 2005, and has been a professional guide since 2010. The unique advantage that this combination of expertise delivers, is that he has over 12,000 hours of bush pilot flight time all in the exact areas that you will hunting. You can rest assured that when you are hunting with him, you will be put into areas that have been thoroughly scouted for high success and great productivity. This makes for an unmatched hunting experience for these coastal bruins and huge moose.

Coastal Brown Bears
These hunts take place in Alaska hunt Unit #17 which boosts some of the highest bear populations in the state. Because of the high density bear population, the state of Alaska has designated this area as a 2 bear area. This can give you the option of taking a nice bear when you see it knowing that if a bigger one shows up later, you can take that one as well. This area includes the various tributaries of Bristol Bay, all of which support these bear’s favorite food, namely high protein enriched, migrating salmon. BRISTOL BAY boasts one of the state’s biggest salmon returns, year after year. Large salmon runs make for large bears! Bears grow big here and will average close to 9’ with big ones of over 10’ taken on a regular basis. The outfitter advises that if a client is in good shape and hunts hard, they should have close to 100% opportunity at getting their bear.

The hunts are based out of Dillingham, Alaska and your transportation from there to your hunting area is included in the hunt price! Not an extra! You will hunt 10 days and then be returned to Dillingham after the conclusion of your hunt. Your guiding is 1×1 and includes your food, and lodging.
Fall hunts will be from spike camps along those tributaries that have shown bear activity. These hunts, depending on the time of season and availability, may provide an opportunity at a trophy moose as well.

We think this outfitter offers an outstanding and unique option for his spring hunts. On these Spring hunts, when you leave Dillingham you will be transported to the outfitter’s cabin. His cabin sits next to a lake that will most likely still be frozen over at that time of year. Camp provides you with a warm shelter and hot food upon your return from a day’s hunt. What makes the hunt somewhat different is that you will spend your days driving around on snow machines in searching of big bruins that are just coming out of hibernation and are out looking for food.

One client it put It this way: “Instead of climbing to the top of a ridge or high place, then sitting there and glassing for a bear all day, you are mobile, and you drive your snow machine around creating the ultimate “spot and stalk” adventure”. With the location of his cabin, you will have access to 600 square miles of Alaskan country side to search and find your desired trophy. The outfitter says you can drive up to 100 miles each day if need be. This will make for some sore muscle as you use those muscles that you don’t use every day. The outfitter advises that this is why he added a hot sauna to the cabin — to help everyone relax after a long day of hunting.

Moose Hunts
This outfitter’s moose hunts take place within the foothills of the Bristol Bay region, adjacent to two of the smaller mountain ranges in Western Alaska. This scenic area is dotted with beautiful lakes, rivers and streams. It is remote, but still accessible in September, during their moose season. Every year in this region they see record quality big bull moose. Their clients have steadily killed moose that average around 63” with opportunities for giants in the high 60” to 70” class. They offer exclusive fly-in hunts deep into the Alaskan bush, into areas that are not readily accessible to the local traffic. It’s this combination of great genetics and low hunting pressure that makes this truly a trophy opportunity of a lifetime.

These moose hunts are 1×1 guided by seasoned and accomplished professionals, and are pretty much all inclusive. They include your flights in and out of the bush from Dillingham, quailty camp tents, cots, cooked food, and excellent trophy care. Your animals’s meat and the trophy are bought out all the way to Dillingham. This cost is typically not included with other outfitters – and that can significantly add to your expenses.

DROP CAMPS: Un-guided but fully outfitted moose hunts are also available. As a licensed transporter this outfitter has the ability to drop hunters off anywhere that you are legally allowed to hunt in Alaska. Add to that his extensive experience and knowledge of the local area from the countless hours of guiding and flying, and you get some high quality and accurate intel on where the moose can be found. These drop camp hunts are also outfitted, meaning he supplies you with quality camping equipment. This includes your tent, cots, and cooking equipment delivered to your desired hunting location. The outfitter even provides a satellite communication device at no additional cost, which is a virtual necessity on these remote DIY hunts.

HAPPY CLIENTS: This outfitter’s hard work, dedication, and motivation are what will make your hunt one of those” Trip of a Lifetime” adventures. Here is what a past client had to say:
” I live here and know a lot of outfitters. I chose this outfitter because first, he is a very experienced bush pilot. In western Alaska nothing means more than the ability to get you in and out safely. Second, he lives there and constantly scouts the area as he is doing other flying jobs. That all has added up to two successful hunts for me.”
