The outfitter uses a variety of techniques to pursue trophy elk in New Mexico. Whether you are hunting the vast wilderness of the Gila or on one of his private ranches, seasoned guides will use spot & stalk, ambush, and other methods to give you an opportunity to harvest a trophy bull. Trophy elk average 300 to about 325 with potential opportunities at bigger 350 class bulls. All Inclusive packages include guides, meals, and accommodations. Private Elk Ranch Unit 46
The majority of private land elk hunting takes place in unit 46 outside the community of Ocate, NM. This beautiful part of Northeast New Mexico is where the Rocky Mountains transition into the plains. Hunting terrain is mild compared to many of the other areas of the state. Ranches have excellent numbers of elk throughout the year which allows clients great success during early season as well as late season. Bow hunts start September 1-24 pick any five days to hunt within that time period. The action is nearly non-stop rutting once the bulls kick into the rut, being further north the rut kicks in usually around the end of the first week of September and will go to the end of October. The reason for a longer rut up into this area is the large amount of cow elk that there are usually a few cows here and there that haven’t been bred so the bulls hang around longer. The rifle bull and cow hunts start October 1st and end December 31st pick any five days. All tags bow or rifle are either sex on private land. Two of the ranches are enrolled in a special January cow elk program that allows hunting the entire month of January. This is an excellent way to fill your freezer with the best meat around, not to mention an affordable option to go elk hunting with great success. They do have other ranches throughout the state as well with very high success rates.
Public Land Elk Hunt
Public land hunts for New Mexico bull elk take place in New Mexico elk units: 12, 13, 15, 17, 16A, 16D, 16E, and unit 34. The outfitter can help apply for any New Mexico elk hunter in the public draw and put you in a separate drawing pool. This drawing pool will allow the hunter to increase their odds of drawing one of these premier elk hunting units.
Public land rifle or muzzleloader hunts usually start at the middle of October. These hunts are some of the best public land New Mexico hunting available. The outfitter hunts the famed Gila National Forest in Southwest New Mexico, The Lincoln National Forest in South Central New Mexico and The Cibola National Forest in Western New Mexico for trophy elk. Success is very high for trophy bull elk in this area. The outfitter has landowner vouchers in New Mexico for public lands.
Cow Elk Hunts in New Mexico
New Mexico offers some of the top trophy elk hunts in New Mexico a Cow Elk hunt can be a great alternative if you are looking for something more affordable. Cow Elk hunts are an excellent opportunity for beginner/intermediate hunters to get experience hunting elk animals without the price or pressure.
A Cow Elk hunt is also a great way to stock the freezer with tasty, free-range meat, providing 200-300 pounds of meat for the average elk. That feeds most families for almost an entire year.
Cow elk hunts are much more affordable than trophy elk hunts and are a great way to experience New Mexico elk hunting. The Mule Deer Hunt in New Mexico

The Mule Deer Bow hunting season in New Mexico takes place in September and January and the rifle hunts take place in late October through mid-November. Generally, there is a lot of hiking and glassing for deer on these hunts. Some of New Mexico’s hunting country is very open, so glassing plays a large part in finding your trophy buck.
New Mexico offers some of the best mule deer hunting on public lands in the world. The outfitters can apply any hunter for the draw in New Mexico. Many New Mexico Outfitters know that the public land in Northwest New Mexico can produce magnum-size racks. The outfitters hunt in a handful of units that border the famed Jicarilla Apache Reservation.
That region of New Mexico is known for trophy-quality mule deer. With great doe and buck numbers, this area is considered by many New Mexico outfitters to be the best in the state.
Archery hunts on public land are by draw only, but the draw odds are better than most sportsmen think they would be. Archery hunts take place in September & January and the rifle deer hunts can start as early as mid-October and run through mid-November.
Hunting the Grey Ghost

These unique deer are smaller than your typical whitetail and are extremely wary. Referred to as the Gray Ghost, they are one of the most challenging big game animals to hunt in Arizona and New Mexico. They have great camouflage and sharp senses, making it even more rewarding when you harvest one. Many hours are spent hiking and glassing for these ghosts of the desert. This is typically a physically challenging hunt because of the terrain these deer live in. Deer generally will score anywhere from 90″-110″. Since Coues deer are smaller, this standard is definitely something to be proud of.
New Mexico’s Best Trophy Antelope Hunts
Offering rifle, archery, and muzzleloader hunts in New Mexico on several private ranches set up to hunt antelope and there is an abundance of antelope on these properties.
Bow and Arrow hunts generally start around mid-August and the rifle hunts follow on the 3rd weekend of August. No matter what style of hunt you choose, it is sure to be a great experience for any sportsman. Hunts on public land are typically a draw type of hunt. The outfitter can apply for any sportsman for these draw hunts.
Buck antelope average about 15 inches with many approaching or exceeding Boone & Crockett size. These private ranches in New Mexico are located in the Northeastern part of the state. Many antelope hunting enthusiasts know that this part of New Mexico is the most populated with Pronghorn Antelope.
Archery antelope takes place on the same private ranches they conduct rifle hunts on. Unit 37 ranch is better than most areas for spot and stalk because there are draws to conceal yourself and a lot of areas patches of Cholla cactus to sneak behind. An abundance of water is key on this ranch. We believe if a hunter is patient enough they should have opportunities sitting over water. Buck quality is excellent on all antelope ranches with a vast amount of country to hunt.
Method of hunting will be spot and stalk and sitting water sources. Shot distance to expect is 20-80 yards. Of course, a hunter experienced in longer shooting will up their odds to be successful.
There are many good units to hunt antelope in New Mexico they focus on unit 37 and unit 46 due to the quality of bucks and hunting terrain.
Hunting unit 37 for rifle antelope
There are 3 gun antelope hunts that take place on private land in unit 37 north of the town of Capitan. Antelope buck quality is excellent in this area and he has over 200 sections of land to hunt. First hunt is at end of August, second at end of September and a third hunt end of the first week in October.
Hunting unit 46 for rifle antelope
The majority of the state will have the same dates to hunt. One ranch that’s the exception located in unit 46 Mora County. Hunt any three consecutive days from August 26 to December 31. This allows hunting during peak rut times and more flexibility with booking dates. Method of hunting is spot and stalk with some opportunities to sit over water.
2025 New Mexico Rifle Antelope Hunting Season
Dates for the 2024 season are August 24-26, September 28-30, Oct 5-7. These dates will vary a little from year to year. They are set in late spring by the G&F, so the 2025 dates will be close. All rifle antelope hunts are three-day hunts and are over the counter on the private ranches.
Average shot distance for rifle antelope hunts is 200-400 yards and taking many bucks in the high 70’s and harvest Boone and Crockett every year on both areas. Hunting is guide only. Hunters will provide their room in board in nearby town or their areas to setup a camp.
New Mexico Oryx
The White Sands Missile Range hunts are once in a lifetime. The only other Oryx hunt that rivals this is a broken horn Oryx hunt on the range. Trophy hunts for the general public are once in a lifetime. There are numerous hunts throughout the year for Oryx both on and off the range. Generally, an average bull horn length will be around 34 to 37 with a few bulls that can go 40 or bigger. Whenever a hunter draws a tag for Oryx it is an “either sex tag”. Most of the time the cows will have longer horns than the bulls.
Oryx on White Sand Missile Range
There are several areas within Whites Sands Missile Range where they hunt Rhodes Canyon, Stallion Range, and Small Missile Range. All of these areas can produce trophy-class New Mexico Oryx. On-range hunts are conducted by NMDGF in tandem with the US Military. There are a phenomenal number of Oryx on the range, the only thing is knowing the animal’s habits and being able to field judge these magnificent animals.
Off The Range
Although you will experience fewer numbers of oryx off-range, They still have 100% shot opportunity on their off-range hunts. All of the off-range oryx hunts offered will typically be on the state or BLM lands. There is no other place in the world you can hunt oryx on public land, this is truly fair chase hunting at its finest.
New Mexico Barbary Sheep Hunting
New Mexico Barbary Sheep hunts take place on private ranches and public land. Specializing in Barbary sheep units 29, 30, 32, and 37.
Private Ranch Barbary Sheep Hunts
These private ranches are some of the best in the state of New Mexico for Barbary Sheep hunting. With large continuous pieces of deeded land, there are no public land checkerboard issues to deal with. Average 25-27 inch rams and they will take 30” rams every year. Three-day hunts on private ranches. On one unit of their 32 ranches, they offer fully outfitted hunts where you stay right on the ranch. The other two ranches are semi-guided hunts where the guest is responsible for their own meals and lodging. Hunters will typically book a room in Roswell or Ruidoso depending on what ranch they hunt.
You will have a sheep-savvy guide assigned to you no matter which hunt you decide to book (fully outfitted or semi-guided). There are great sheep numbers on these properties; to keep the population in check they can pair up a ram hunter with a ewe hunter for an additional fee.
Public Land Barbary Sheep Hunts
Public land Barbary sheep hunts take place in New Mexico draw units as well as some over-the-counter areas. The draw percentage for the public land units is very good, these hunts will carry some high-quality Barbary sheep. They have a handful of private land Barbary tags that we book every year, these tags are over the counter.
Public land hunts are in units 29, 30, 32, 34, and 37 and are all five-day semi-guided where the hunter provides their own meals and lodging. They will provide a very experienced sheep guide for the entire duration of the hunt. Also provide the use of a guide’s truck, UTV, and whatever else equipment needed for the hunt. Public land hunting can be very tough if you don’t have the right guide; all of his guides are local and have been hunting the public land areas for many years.
All of these hunts public or private ranch Barbary Sheep hunts can be extremely physical. These sheep live in the steep and rocky country and are constantly on the move. Glassing is the most important and effective way to spot sheep, so hunters need to be prepared to spend a lot of time looking at potentially long distances to find these elusive animals. New Mexico Turkey Hunts
Merriams turkey hunts are on private as well as public land. So when you book a hunt you will have the ability to hunt there exclusive ranches or hunt the adjacent public land in search of your trophy bird. Turkey tags are OTC and bag limit is two bearded turkeys per hunter. Hunts are based off of one turkey a second turkey can be added for additional fee.
