This is an American who is outfitting in Mexico as a permanent resident. This means he has no Mexican partners and all the ranches, staff, vehicles, relationships are his alone to direct and control. The big benefit, is he is accountable for the hunt and he offers clients a unique experience. He has 200,000 acres for deer and until now, he operated only through word of mouth. But he wanted to expand and Hunt Nation is his marketing choice. He hunts Mule Deer, Coues, and Sheep. He personally has hunted in Sonora since 2011 and is very familiar with all of the challenges of hunting in Mexico. His Coues Deer are second to none and last year he took only 5 guys; 143, 131, 126, 117 (archery) 110. He knows they can kill a lot more and still keep a high size average. Their biggest Mule deer last year was 214 7/8 typical, and they took a 219 already in winter of 2022.
They have 200” deer on all our leases but we advertise conservatively at a 175” or better hunt. They have taken a number of deer over 200, but we at Hunt Nation do not promise that. He has had all repeat guys for the last 4 years!! Opportunity has been 100% on all species with success rates depending on marksmanship and speed of getting onto an animal, but 80% is fair figure, understanding that some clients will not shoot anything but a giant. So that drops the success a bit. You will hunt using various methods depending on their local knowledge. You may be high-racking in the back of truck; you could be stalking, riding a horse, or even sitting a blind. Whatever works!
DATES: Coues are hunted from December to February and Mule deer are similar.
PERMITS/LICENSES: Hunt Nation and the outfitter will get these for you, just be sure to fly only to Hermosillo, or risk loss of rifle if you try to enter Mexico elsewhere. You will need to obtain a US Customs Form 4457 for travel and permitting. Simply take your rifle and scope sight to nearest Customs office in advance of travel. We will help. There is a charge of $500 per animal for all the permits and permissions.
LODGING: You will stay at the ranch with above average accommodations. Hot showers. Food included of course
TRAVEL: You fly to Hermosillo and outfitter picks you up and transports you to the ranch. No charge. American Airlines is a primary carrier to there.
DESERT BIGHORN SHEEP: These are free range bighorn sheep on a private ranch of over 250,000 acres. There also are some high fence sheep hunts on 2.500 Acres. Fly to Hermosillo or possibly Tucson. Hunt season runs from early November to end of march. You hunt spot and stalk on foo or with horses or with high rack trucks, then on foot. Lodging varies with sheep locations, usually a ranch house or outfitter tents, depending on the client and the sheep. Hunts are 5 full days and include lodging, meals, funs, transport, field prep of trophy and documentation for transport. They are 100% successful to date on sheep up to 170” SCI High fence has sheep over 180”. Costs include the CITES permit, the gun import permissions, airport pickup and drop off.
