We believe this is likely the largest contiguous ranch in the entire West, at over 570,000 acres. For the trophy muley, elk or pronghorn hunter, or the avid trout fisher, this place is heaven in Wyoming. And the prices are quite reasonable for what they offer you. For example, mule deer bucks average in the 160”-175” range, but obviously in such a huge area there are always bigger ones. Accommodations are in a superb 4-star lodge with 2 guests per room, with private bath. We think the hunting is just plain excellent for all 3 species.
This incredible ranch has an estimated 10,000 antelope, 2,000 elk, and plenty of mule deer, along with about 12,000 cattle and 400 bison. It produces big mule deer, 300”-class and bigger elk, and antelope in the 75”-84” range. They are also an Orvis-endorsed fly fishing operation and have thousands of trout (many over 20”) in over a dozen gin-clear spring-fed prairie ponds and backcountry lakes. It is simply an outdoorsman’s paradise!
The ranch lies in Central Wyoming and has elevation ranges from 6,300 to 9,200 feet. It has a huge variety of terrain, from very easy to hard; from high alpine mountain meadows to red rim-rock canyons to lush grass prairies. The ranch manages their timber, grasslands and water resources to nurture both the environment and the wildlife. Most hunting is spot and stalk, using ranch vehicles to access areas.
MULE DEER:
Their mulies are relatively lightly hunted, and a client who is patient should see deer in the 170” class and possibly better. Most clients harvest bucks in the 160’ to 180” class. There are some giants here that are seldom seen and die of old age! Shots tend to be long – 200 to 300 yards and more. Use good binos and shooting sticks!
They are in Area 70, which is Region D. A Special License in this area can usually be drawn with 0 preferences points, and a Regular License with 1+ points (application deadline is approx. May 31 each year). You can theoretically do this hunt every year! But the rifle season in this area is very short, usually just October 15-21, while archery is the entire month of September.
ELK
Located within renowned Area 16, the Ranch’s deeded land holdings provide you the opportunity to hunt elk across several different habitat types. Hunting terrain varies from open meadows in the timber to vast Juniper flats to windswept ridgelines. Depending on the timing, your hunt can range from bugling rutting herd bulls in the thick timber to spotting & stalking elk on open ridgelines. There are a lot of big bulls hiding here, and this operation takes pride in the craft of understanding their elk herds and the skill and efficiency needed to provide you with a memorable hunting experience.
Elk tags are very limited here and usually take 16+ preference points to draw, depending upon whether you are applying for a Regular License or a Special License. The application deadline is usually January 31 each year. The archery season runs the months of September and the rifle season runs the month of October. They also hunt cow elk until November 30.
ANTELOPE
They hunt mainly Area 47, but some in Area 48 as well. This area has a long history of big antelope – antelope in the 75”-84” range, and many have made the record books. With hundreds of thousands of acres securely managed behind locked gates and thousands of antelope roaming the ranch, your chances at finding a wall hanger are high, but be prepared for long range shooting!
Antelope tags here (Area 47) usually take 6-7 preference points to draw, depending upon whether you are applying for a Regular License or a Special License (application deadline is approx. May 31 each year). The archery season is approx. August 15-September 25, and rifle is September 25-October 31.
FISHING
The dozen or so lakes on the ranch range in size from a few acres to over 40 acres. As a result, the trout are as wild as the animals on the ranch. Pristine water and rich food sources result in maximum sizes and numbers. It is an incredible fishery with rainbows, browns, brookies, cutthroats, and even a rainbow-cutthroat hybrid called a cutbow. And they will work with anyone from a novice fly fisher to an expert. Ponds range from prairie-like waters near the ranch headquarters, to the solitude of high, backcountry stream-fed lakes. As is the nature of fishing, a successful day might wait at the edges of one pond more abundantly than at another. But no matter, with the selection of and variety of water, fishing success is usually just a cast away. Fishing can often be added to a hunting trip.
Trophies range from 4-9 pound rainbows and brown trout. Like all trophies, they may not show every day, but anglers will have their chance to have their picture taken with a trophy trout. All fishing is catch and release fly fishing. You can bring your own gear or use theirs. You can outfit yourself with the very best from Orvis in the fly shop. Their staff of Orvis-qualified, knowledgeable guides will recommend gear to suit your fly fishing experience.
PRARIE DOG HUNTING
The Shirley Basin grasslands located within the Ranch have one of the largest populations of white tail prairie dogs in the state. Sportsmen wanting to increase their marksmanship skills or enjoy an outing with friends can be accommodated with a custom-tailored prairie dog shoot. Accommodations are available for individuals and corporate groups.
